On Oct. 24, 2015, Montgomery County held the first-ever event to honor the County’s Vietnam veterans since the war ended 40 years earlier. The event, which was organized by the members of the County’s PEG cable stations with the help of many other volunteers, was held at the Universities of Shady Grove was attended by a capacity crowd of more than 800. On Aug. 8, 2016, the City-County Communications Association (3CMA) announced that the event was selected by as one of the top three special events held by local governments in the U.S. over the past year. In September, 3CMA will announce the selection of the top event. 3CMA is the nation’s most prestigious organization of government communications officials.

Mark your calendars for October 24th for “Honor and Gratitude: Montgomery County Salutes Vietnam Veterans.” This event at the Universities of Shady Grove in Rockville is just one exciting part of this project, headed by the Public, Education and Government (PEG) media organizations of Montgomery County. It will also include a documentary produced by Emmy-winners Dan Rankin and Barbara Grumbaum of the PEGs.
